David Wilson

David Wilson (B.Mus., M.Mus.) is a Voice Teacher, Singer, Certified Yoga Instructor (1997), Breath Therapist, and Conductor. 

Teaches Classical and Musical Theatre.

As a singer, David has studied under Lloyd Erickson, Alex Gray, Pat Hrynkiw, Nan Hughes, Janet Youngdahl, Bernard Tergeon, and Elsie Hepburn.

In Calgary he served as Artistic Director of the Calgary Renaissance Singers (1991-2001), Debut Opera Society (1993-96), and SPIRITUS Chamber Choir, (1995-2001) winning a 1999 International Contemporary A cappella Recording Award for their CD 'Crossing Bridges'. In 1999, David received the Alberta Choral Federation’s Con Spirito Award in recognition of his contribution to choral music in Alberta. Since moving to Edmonton he has served as Associate Conductor of the Richard Eaton Singers and Da Camera Singers, and as the Artistic Director of Vocal Alchemy, the Edmonton Recorder Orchestra (2003-2008), My Fair Lady, Dream King, Mikado, and most recently, RENT. In October 2004, David was invited to the Évora Cathedral Music School to present his Master's Thesis, 'Manuel Cardoso of Portugal'. From 2003-2008 David served as Director of Music at Concordia High School, from 2006-1010 served as Vocal Yoga Instructor for Opera Nuova’s Summer Festival Program. Since 2010 he has been working with both Edmonton Musical Theatre and Calgary’s Cowtown Opera as Vocal Coach. As a singer he performed with the Edmonton Opera Chorus from 2006-2009, and in 2011 performed Cinderella’s Prince and The Wolf in Elope’s production of Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods. In 2012 he became the Co-Conductor of the Edmonton Metropolitan Orchestra, and a Voice Instructor at Grant MacEwan University. Since 2013, David has enjoyed an ongoing collaborative relationship with the Voice Program at the University of Alberta.

In addition to maintaining professional vocal studios in both Edmonton and Calgary, David is the founder of Body, Breath, & Voice Integrative Therapy; he leads over thirty workshops a year for choirs, vocal studios, schools, office environments, yoga studios and hospitals on the use of voice, breath and yoga to treat asthma and anxiety, and to develop vocal strength and personal confidence.

He is currently writing two books. His first DVD, "Yoga for Voice", will be released in the fall of 2013.
