Soprano Whitney Sloan has been praised for her clear, lyrical voice and ability to take full advantage of both the light and shade in a score (Opera Canada). In recent seasons, Whitney was engaged as the cover for the role of Liù in Edmonton Opera’s (EO) production of Turandot and performed the role of Second Maid in EO’s production of Elektra. She was recently featured in performances of Mahler’s Second Symphony with conductor Edmonton Agopian. Future seasons will include further performances with the Edmonton Opera (Zerlina; Don Giovanni) and Edmonton Symphony Orchestra (Feature Engagement 2018).

 

In addition to her active performing schedule, for the past Seven years Whitney has taught a small studio of individuals keen on developing the following vocal skills:

 

  • Breath Management and Singing Technique;
  • Song Interpretation;
  • Diction/Languages (as required – French/Italian/German/Czech/Russian);
  • Memorization;
  • Performance and Presentation

 

A variety of musical styles are encouraged as a means of practical application of the fundamental components of vocal instruction – Musical Theatre, Classical, Jazz and Popular Music are welcome in the studio! 

 

Whitney obtained both a Master and Bachelor of Music degrees from the University of British Columbia. She has received additional training from the Franz Schubert Institute, Opera NUOVA and Calgary Opera.
