Mairi-Irene McCormack
Originally from Cape Breton, mezzo-soprano Mairi-Irene McCormack is a versatile performer and voice teacher based in Edmonton. She holds a Performer Diploma in Vocal Performance from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music and a Masters of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Alberta. Mairi-Irene has had experience performing a wide-range of genres from folk and pop music to classical music and opera. As a classical soloist, she has performed with several orchestras and ensembles locally and regionally, and has recently been engaged by the Richard Eaton Singers and the Alberta Baroque Ensemble. An avid performer of art song and lieder, Mairi-Irene is a 2012 graduate of the Franz Schubert Institut.
Mairi-Irene loves to teach singers of all experience levels and ages (6 and up.) She specializes in breath and body work and enjoys helping singers build their confidence in themselves and their ability to communicate through song. She has previously taught as a sessional voice instructor at the University of Alberta and in the fall of 2020 she joined the faculty of the Concordia University of Edmonton. Mairi-Irene also has a busy private studio located in south Edmonton where she is currently offering voice lessons online. Additionally, she is available as an adjudicator for music festivals and as a clinician for voice workshops and masterclasses.
